Renovation timelines

How long will your renovation take?

Every home is different, but you should still have a clear idea of what to expect.

These are realistic timelines for a well planned renovation. Your final schedule will depend on the size of the space, the work involved, material availability, permits, inspections, and anything unexpected we find after construction begins.

Before we start, we create a clear project schedule and explain what could affect it.

Full Home Renovation

Design and planning

Usually 2 to 6 weeks

Permit (if required)

Usually 2 to 8 weeks

Renovation

Usually 8 to 24 weeks

A full home renovation can include several rooms, different trades, structural work, permits, inspections, and custom materials. The timeline depends on the size of the home and how much is changing.

A renovation that keeps the existing layout will usually move faster than one that changes walls, plumbing, electrical systems, heating, or the structure of the home.

What may add more time

New openings in load bearing walls
Structural engineering

Moving kitchens or bathrooms

Electrical or plumbing upgrades

Custom windows or doors

Mould, asbestos, water damage, or hidden structural problems

basement bg.jpg

Bathroom Renovation

Design and planning

Usually 1 to 2 weeks

Renovation

Usually 2 to 3 weeks

A straightforward bathroom renovation can often be completed within this time when the layout stays the same and all materials are ready before construction begins.

What may add more time

Moving plumbing fixtures
Adding or relocating electrical points
Custom glass or cabinetry

Special order tiles and fixtures
Adding or relocating electrical points
Electrical or plumbing problems found during demolition

bathroom soft.jpg

Kitchen Renovation

Design and planning

Usually 1 to 3 weeks

Renovation

Usually 3 to 6 weeks

Countertop installation

Usually 1 to 3 weeks

Stone countertops normally need to be measured after the cabinets are secured and level. The stone is then cut and prepared before installation, which often takes about 7 to 14 business days.

What may add more time

Moving plumbing fixtures
Relocating dedicated electrical points
Changing the exhaust location

Special order appliance and finishes

Making structural changes

Basement Renovation

Design and planning

Usually 1 to 3 weeks

Permit (if required)

Usually 2 to 6 weeks

Renovation

Usually 3 to 12 weeks

Basement timelines can vary a lot. A simple open space will take less time than a basement with a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, structural work, or major mechanical changes.

Ontario gives municipalities set review periods for complete permit applications. For many residential projects, the initial review period is about 10 business days. However, the full process can take longer when information is missing, revisions are requested, or zoning approval is needed.

What may add more time

Adding new kitchen
Adding new bathroom
Mould or water damage

Waterproofing and drainage work
Underpinning or structural work
Moving main plumbing stack

What helps a renovation stay on schedule?

A smooth renovation starts before demolition.

We confirm the design, materials, fixtures, appliances, and major decisions as early as possible. We also coordinate trades, deliveries, permits, and inspections so the project keeps moving.

Some surprises cannot be seen until walls or floors are opened. When that happens, we explain the issue, show you the options, and update the schedule before moving forward.

A clear timeline before we begin

You should not have to guess how long your renovation will take.

Before construction begins, we give you a realistic schedule based on your home, your project, and the work involved.

You will know what happens next, what could affect the timeline, and who to contact when you have a question.

These are planning ranges. Your final schedule depends on your home, the condition of the space, the materials you choose, and the amount of work needed.
